Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? That is the question.
In this blog I will be discussing the use of Facebook in school libraries. I will also look at the advantages and disadvantages of School libraries with Facebook pages.
As I looked through the Facebook pages of several school libraries, there were a couple I chose to focus. I visited were the Walnut Creek Elementary School Library and the Martin Middle School Library. I found many advantages of Facebook on the elementary Facebook page:
*Promoting the school library/library activities/books
*Highlighted positive things on the campus/other libraries as well
*Upcoming author visits/book fairs etc.
*Congratulating library aides, student library helpers, librarian awards
*Reminders of National Days-National Dog Day
*Friends of the library, positive stories around the country that impact libraries in that part of the country.
The disadvantage(s) or negative point to the Facebook page I found, came from the middle school page. The page hadn't been updated in some time. Though I only saw a small bit of criticism or negative comments or lack of comments. I thought that might be a disadvantage. You open the school up to negative comments and you don't know if anyone is really going to the page or not. I didn't see any comments to what was being posted by the librarian.
Thumbs up
